From Athens, Greece, Experimental/Progressive quartet LACRIMAE debut their EP titled "Entropia." Of the five tracks here, we have a short intro, a short outro, and three songs in between. In English, "entropia" translates to "a turning towards," or "a transformation." "Opus Tempus" gives us a flavor of what might follow, with beautiful piano notes and an air of mystery as well. "Necromancer" opens with clean guitar notes, and a riff pattern that is heavy and aggressive but with due melody. At first Annette's vocals are whispered and suspenseful, but soon she turns it on. The alternating passages of ambient moments with the more weighted passages keep the sound fresh and vital. Stylistically I think it fits well into the Progressive area of Rock/Metal but other influences can be picked up as well. The sweet guitar solo compliments the melody rather than overtaking it.

"Indistinct" is nearly seven minutes in length. Here you have an opportunity to take a bit of a journey with the band to really peer into their world. Sometimes there are shadows and other times light, with the feeling that there are things lurking out there but not close enough to the edge of your consciousness burrow into you. The song is ever-shifting as well, perhaps as the title suggests, with some surprises along the way, like the delicate atmospheric passage a little past the half way mark. When your killer comes to you guised as a beautiful desire, your guard is gone and her wicked intentions win out. "Inhale Exhale" is strong with soulful vocals and a longing quality, like something out of reach that you can't quite get to, but it doesn't stop you from trying nonetheless. It's dark and gloomy with the promise of danger. The final minute is very suspenseful. "Outro" is just under one minute, and ends the album with a dose of malevolence.

Overall, I found the EP pleasingly intriguing, and it held my attention the entire way through. It was both emotional and expressive, with a theatrical flair. I really only wish there were more songs to listen to, and will look forward to hearing more from the band in the future.
