Let me introduce you to a band from a continent where Metal is really weird, just like the people who reside on it, ha-ha. Jokes aside, LACERTA are based out of Australia, from Hobart, Tasmania. They have been around since 2005 and their debut full-length album entitled "Mind Processor" came out on August 13th, 2010. This album, with its gory, alien-y, sick artwork and eight really brutal Death Metal songs already gave a taste of the band's sound to Australian fans, and some other parts of the world, however the album remained pretty unrecognized. Seven years later came their self-titled, second full-length that, unlike the previous album, wasn't independent, but it was released through the master Canadian label CDN Records, on April 14th, 2017.

"Lacerta" contains an even better artwork than the previous album, and it has ten songs, and my guess is that two are bonuses. The first track, "Pillars of Deceit" even has an official Youtube video. The first riffs are pretty promising; they are groovy, and slightly lean toward the Thrash side but still quite Death Metal-oriented. The vocals are pretty brutal, and I like how the entire atmosphere is quite space-y and somewhat technical. The growls are fine and some squeals are added later on too. From the sharp drums, the crystal clean guitar and bass lines, everything gives you an alien feeling, which is obviously what the band aims for, not just lyrically but musically too. I think I'm definitely not the one who's going to introduce you to the Australian Metal scene, since I am a big fan of it, and almost every band that comes out of there is just pure genius; perhaps weird, but definitely genius. The sound of LACERTA gave me mixed vibes of bands such as the legendary PSYCROPTIC (their earlier albums), A MILLION DEAD BIRDS LAUGHING and a bit of DYING FETUS, although the latter isn't Australian.

Still, the sound of this band is really experimental, original, brutal, fast (though slow when needed) and pretty decent. It instantly got one new fan. Spin their album now!
