Kyy - Beyond Flesh - Beyond Matter - Beyond Death album cover

Shout it out in the name of everything that is unholy and sullied, yet in the same breath watch as it mangles into the flesh of Rock N' Roll. Untamed and uncontrolled Black Metal from Finland hails in the image of KYY. A fairly newcomer band, yet has been able to shake some grounds to gather a possible new hope for the wicked side of Metal music. I read that this here debut, "Beyond Flesh - Beyond Matter - Beyond Death", is something to look for. That is good PR for you. On the other hand, there is more than a handful of albums to look forward to, and time is time, limited. Anyhow, the band's debut was released via Saturnal Records following an EP that carved the promise on the band's skin.

Gathering the early raw meat and wits of 90's Black Metal's second wave, bewildered by past images of greater acts such as ROTTING CHRIST, DARKTHRONE and TAAKE among the many that reigned, KYY deliver their smack in the face. However, "Beyond Flesh - Beyond Matter - Beyond Death" is not just about the primitive fast-paced, blast beating, mysticism of old but also a brash cross flashy bites into kicking Rock N' Roll qualities. You might call it Black N' Roll in the end, however, you might anger the gods of the subgenre, so watch yourself. Evidently, this band is try to add a little bit of spice to the old ways. Still keeping it occult, harsh, furious, melodic with limits yet as well conjuring sour tasted mid tempo Hard Rock melted into Metal riffs in the right place at the right time. To conclude that it was made to perfection or original, that would be inaccurate, nevertheless, it kept the album a bit above water.

The impact of the mentioned mixture might have helped the album become beyond the regular old school Black Metal release, yet the album itself as a whole didn't reserve peak excellence. The songwriting on "Bloodline of Edom" is quite a notable mastery, converging on the idea of an open mind, maintaining the evil than thou imagery along with the energetic old school mayhem. "In Eternal Desire to End" rested even greatly upon these shores as it presented semi intricate foul schemes until riding out as a vehement storm. "Death Within" and "Lord of the Desolate Paths" are possibly the better examples of Black Metal at is full blown cruelty with a taste, but similar to the other tracks on this release, has the same repetitive vibe that wouldn't tire.

Overall, a solid release that might take you further into the band's world of blackened bliss. Nevertheless the rating, I urge to take a listen.
