And I was sure that I was missing a new release... I am always on the hunt for new stuff, and having listened pretty good comments about the new KYLESA album I decided to check it out. The same time I receive a mail from the publishing director that I have been assigned to review Static Tensions. DO you believe in fate?
Well, I must start to believe since fate threw me in front of a magnificent piece of work, carefully handcrafted by this US (Savannah, Georgia) act. I got to know this band from last album Time Will Fuse Its Worth in 2006 and I was more than amazed with their unique and heavy as fuck sound, a sound that continues to exist until today in this beautiful (I think it is the right word to describe it) album, Static Tensions.
I am really curious about why a big label still hasn't kidnapped these guys from Prosthetic. Anyway, Static Tensions has already hit the stores and that's the only thing that matters right now. The energy of MASTODON, the sickness of EYEHATEGOD and the psychosis of MELVINS has been compressed into this little piece of plastic we call CD (or the bigger piece we call vinyl, your choice) and created a musical whirlwind destined to take you far away to foreign lands where the sun hides, yet its bright, people die, yet the place is full of life...
Their music offers a wide variety of emotions, from soft psy moments to aggressive outbreaks, something that makes you realize that contrast is one of KYLESA's strongest weapons. Something that also helps the band and makes this album sound even more kickass is the sound, which is heavy and raw, yet clear enough to make every little detail get stuck into our little weak brains. Thumbs up for Cope's work (he produced the album), and his magic touch that gave the dual guitar assault this magical solid sound.
I am damn sure that Static Tensions will rise up gloriously to the top 10 releases for 2009 list, and if they keep up like this, I think that we will be talking about one more incredibly talented band (basically, the whole world is already talking about them). Check them out no matter what!
