Scripture of the Woods

From Bandcamp, “Upon first viewing of the band name KVLEDSTIMER, as well as the cover art and typeface one might be tempted to assume this is simply a blatant Sort Vokter ripoff. On the contrary, this debut mini album is a definite nod to the former legendary ‘necro’ act, but the music within has a certain vibe that serves as a tribute of sorts while standing on its own merits. Thus, “Scripture of the Woods” will surely appeal to fans of such legendary acts as the aforementioned Sort Vokter as well as ILDJARN and the early works of GOGOROTH while maintaining a primitive sound and style all their own.”
The album has seven songs, and “Emerging Glare” is first. Call it a short introduction to the album, as harrowing notes grow quickly, like a flower whose germination period has been fast-tracked. There are also some backing elements that thicken up the sound that are symphonic in nature. “Folk of the Blossoming Sky” is real burner. You can heard the bass guitar, but the overwhelming wall of thick guitars drowns out nearly everything else, save for the horrid vocals screams. “Sommar” almost has a Punk rhythm to it, and the genres can often be blurred. That is, until the vocals come in, and then you know it is Black Meta. The production is very raw, and unfiltered also. “The Fields Revival” is another short blast of sound that is almost too much on the ears. One thing that the band can do is drive home the harrowing sounds right down your throat.
“Washed Away Among the Stones” has pure evil bass notes in the beginning, and a bit of a slower pace, so that it soaks in. There is a long pause before the half-way mark, furthering the fright. “Fiendish Lore” is another blast of sound, and the backing elements mix in well. It reminds of a stew being stirred vigorously, but the contents are human brains, hands, and blood. “Moons Melody of Death” closes the album, and I like the slowed down, careful, and considerate tones. It creates ambiance for a short time, but soon enough, the gas pedal is pressed down firmly. While this wasn’t a bad album per se, it didn’t push the boundaries of the genre much. Instead, it stayed try to the FWOBM sounds where the genre started. For that reason, it was just a mediocre album for me.
