C( K )rokodil , we all know about the deadly reptile and the very widespread devastating desomorphine drug, KROKODIL is also the name of an Underground 'all- star' band formed by members or ex-members of THE HELL / HEXES / CRY FOR SILENCE / SIKTH and GALLOWS, but from now on. This name will by eternally tagged as belonging to the SLIPKNOT's family, as of course, guitarist Alessandro Venturella is the new masked bass player, filling for Paul Gray (RIP) in the famous Iowa Neo Metal gang .
KROKODIL is also strongly related with MASTADON both in their working/touring relationship but mostly in the fact that their sound is clearly influenced by the American Sludge Metal kings!
Their debut album "Nachash" is indeed like a parody of the Atlanta quintet sound ("Shatter"and "Dead Man's Path" ) a maelstrom of unispired vintage Doomy riffs with an excessive mania in the low end chaos and led by some one dimensional/abrasive/ guttural vocals. This very Harcorish harsh growling method is obviously their weakest point.
Nothing really dangerous in fact, more like a Grass-Snake instead of a merciless crawling Predator!
Only real sonic surprise is the cameo of BIFFY CLYRO's Simon Neil (MARMADUKE DUKE) adding a few clean vocals around the chorus of "Sun Riders" and maybe
the instrumental, the darkened interlude titled "Ragnarock" .
The term Progressive is inadequate here, imho it stands as the absolute opposite, no finesse, no subtlety but a vulgar slab with no credibility in its display of dull power.
