Krisiun - Forged In Fury album cover

It has been already proven time and time again that extreme Metal can reach the highest of levels when it comes to songwriting and instrumental performances. There have been a lot of wizards out there, whether newcomer or veteran. On the other hand, the technical aspects behind the music at times made it soulless, unreachable, too elitist to fathom or take pleasure from. A show of prowess and force isn't the only thing that is important but the ability for the listener to feel the soul of the creator. Without considering the fact that the Brazilian blackened Death Metal oppressors, KRISIUN, have been out there since the early 90's, the music has been developing constantly for years but still remained as they say "natural" and in my view, long living and breathing. The Kolesne brothers present the band's 10th offering, "Forged In Fury", via Century Media, produced proudly by Erik Rutan, which already worked with the band in the last years of the 90's.

I have always perceived KRISIUN as the South American brothers of the US Death Metal underground worshippers, INCANTATION and ACHERON. "Forged In Fury" will show that to you, hard and hitting, nail biting Death Metal manifestation of evil, yet cleaner and sharper than the latest Americans' displays of early 90's raw power. In addition to their brutality, which is uncanny in the Southern American region, elements of mid 90's DEATH have appeared to be exhumed and showcases, bearing high quality riffery that at times is a little far than the traditional savagery of early Death Metal while also sharing several modern techniques that can be easily found in acts such OBSCURA. The Kolesne brothers showed their dedication for the creation of tough end extreme Metal, correlating with the 90's Black Metal artistry but also invested enough of their merits for the fortification of their music is articulate and interesting. Some of the riffs and soloing simply crushed me, leaving me cracked open with amazement.

The arrangements, assorted as they are, especially following the first songs "Scars of the Hatred" and "Ways of Barbarism", ascertained the notion that these guys can create powerful and sophisticated songs while keeping the concept alive and kicking without straying over the edge and losing the main focus of the songs. To my satisfaction it didn't end there, solely on their technical delivery as KRISIUN also maintained the straightforwardness that made old school Death Metal, and Metal in general, so influential and long standing. Tunes such as the mysterious "Timeless Starvation", "Oracle of the Ungod" and "Burning of the Heretic" reserved the good old days of Death Metal, revealing dark worships and Alex Camargo's strong vibe storytelling, incantations of pure evil while decisively obliterating with strong riffs and massive double base action. On the other hand, I believe that the album's crown jewel was set ablaze between the lines of "Strength Forged in Fury", a perfect unification of past and present, always morbid, providing some of the greatest melodic moments and surging traditional riffery.

Old school Metal has been the band's carved in stone law no doubt, yet I am positive that my fellow Metalheads will find several other attributes that will gather them around this release, at least until the next one. This is a must release, stand up and be counted to pre order it.
