Tower Witch
Kreyskull
Wow, this is a very good album!
The Finnish quartet KREYSKULL does not play when they're dealing with making music, and with their new album, "Tower Witch", they give a step ahead.
The band focus their musical efforts on a mixture of Stoner Metal with many aspects of Rock'n'Roll from 60's and 70's, mixing influences from bands like BLACK SABBATH, ZZ TOP, and maybe something from old (and good) CREAM, and their work is going in a very different way from those ones, being more melodic accessible to reach a broader public, but of course it's heavy as hell (some riffs reminds me of things that WITCHFINDER GENERAL and PENTAGRAM did). Their vocals are pretty fine, going from melodic to harsh tunes in a normal way of singing, as well having a great work from guitars, and bass and drums basis is strong and heavy. Be sure to listen with attention, nephews and nieces of Big Daddy here.
The sound production is very good, giving a certain touch of the 70's, but without being so oiled and full of mold. No, here the music is alive and kicking, with sound quality giving the instruments good tunes and clarity enough for us to hear, understand and like the band's work.
Nine very good songs awaits us all, being the best ones "Night of the Waking Octopus" (a pure Stoner Rock song, with good refrain and very good vocals), the charming and dynamic "The Man Who Lived Before" (great and well done riffs), the heavy and instigating "Tower Witch", and the charming ones "Evil Absolute Blues" (a more bluesy song, with great rhythmic basis) and "El Chupacabra".
Good, good album!
