KORPIKLAANI is of the biggest Finnish Metal bands of all history. They have grown a lot throughout the years, and gained enough fame to be considered as one of the biggest Folk Metal band as well. The Finnish drunken metallers have just released their newest album "Jylhä" through Nuclear Blast on February, 05th and that is what we are going to talk about. The opening track from the album is "Verikoika" which starts differently, with some nice drumming and a guitar riff that reminded a little bit of Accept. The melodies created by the accordion and violins are pretty good and it does sounds like Korpiklaani. For the violin and accordion players, there's a session of shred - which sounded pretty cool.
"Niemi" is a pretty good song, and it goes straight to the point. You will hear all the folkloric shredding and melodies that makes you want to go dancing and drinking as much as you can, and the vocal lines are pretty good as well. That is a very nice song. "Leväluhta" starts with acoustic guitars and a pretty nice melodic duo created by the accordion and violin. That song has even some reggae touches when it comes to the guitar rhythm - its a nice song. "Mylly" starts with a good drumming and guitar riffs that will definitely make your band your head and dance as the melodies that are coming from the violins and accordions creates the perfect ambiance for it. This song feels easier for a foreigner or non Finnish language speaker to sing and that is something that I care of.
"Tuuleton" is a very beautiful song with acoustic finger played guitars, and some cleaner vocals. The electric guitars comes in a little bit later, but without changing the acoustic vibe that keeps going, and the vocal melodies are probably one of the bests from the album. Its inspiring. "Sanaton maa" starts with one of the best melodies from the whole album and its definitely a song that will put you in a better mood. The vocals are really good here and it shows Jönne's capacity and ability to sing different ranges. Great song!
"Kiuru" starts with an aggressive guitar riff that keeps going as the melodies starts to sound in. We can say that its more of a metal song, and the focus here are more on the guitars which I find pretty good. "Miero" starts with a nice and simple guitar riff and then all the instruments and vocals comes in at once. The drums and instrumental are pretty good. That is a very nice song. "Pohja" have all that beautiful melodies that this band is known for, and it also has the heavy guitars riffs and good vocals. I guess its going to be one of the hits from the album. "Huolettomat" here probably have another hit and a song that will definitely be on their setlist. Its exciting, fast, and it perfectly fits a nice folk party. Just listen to it.
"Anolan Aukeat" starts with a melody and riff that made it sounds epic and I liked it very much. That is a great song - I have nothing more to add. "Pidot" starts with an acoustic and a slide guitars, it does sound like they were in a farm while writing it down. Beautiful melodies and a nice countryside spirit on it, enjoy folk people. "Juuret" is the last song from the album, and it starts with a dark guitar sound and beautiful melodies. That song is slow and it will make you bang your head as soon as you hear the first notes of it. That song changes its dynamic as it heads towards the end, and I love it.
KORPIKLAANI did it again and they have written and released a great album. It does have a lot of beautiful melodies and great guitar riffs, but I was impressed by the drum work as well. Keep it up!
