Knelt Rote - Alterity album cover

"Lineage and Dependence" starts as a dark Death Doom mix up, the partisan vocals make it unclear to understand anything Gordon is saying, which very often makes it harder to appreciate a song. However, the melody and rhythm of the instruments is debauched and frantic, making this an easy one to keep the feet tapping and heads banging. The song itself does not peak 3 minutes, so as soon as you get into it, it ends.

"Rumination" has the same high-level tempo as the previous song, which keeps the good vibe going. The same distorted sound is more accustom now, the low vocals still leave a bit to be desired. However, if you have the album (in any format) then no doubt you're into this. The song lasts over three minutes, allowing a bit more expression, but still feels like its cut short. The Death Grind approach is very apparent with the length of the songs.

"Genetic Memory" begins with a frenzy once more, this feels like it was running from the end of "Ruminations". The intensity is here once more but feels like a misfire as its 100 seconds long. Hard to get into a song that long. "Othering" sounds exactly the same as "Genetic Memory", this is potentially an issue as there is a lack of variety, but go with what you know. Once more, the tempo is fast and frantic, which helps the lack of progression, as you enjoy the sound more. The distorted vocals have by now become the norm, so leaves little to be desired. The melody is great and with a bit more variety could have made this album great. Would of. Could of. Should of.
