Klogr - Keystone album cover

KLOGR is an Alternative Rock/Metal band formed in 2011. Following some line-up changes along the way, the band have released two prior full-length albums. They had a solid line-up as of 2014. "Keystone" is the title of the new album presented here, containing twelve tracks. Let's get to some of the highlights here. "Sleeping Through the Seasons" is the opener. It has a heavy sound with a punchy rhythm and uses good melody to move the track along. There are some softer moments as well, which are nice to listen to. "Technocracy" is a little faster and heavier; a riff driven track with an extended chorus and a bit on the darker side. Though in the realm of Hard Rock, there are actually elements of Alternative, Metal and even some Punk influence here and there.

"The Echoes of Sin" has some tender moments in a slower, more mid-tempo song, but doesn't lose any of its weight. The vocal harmonies are great as well and I love the fade out at the end. "Drag You Back" has a similar pace but the riffing is on a lower scale, and the vocals in the verses are drawn out a bit, telling a statement of resistance and standing for yourself. "Dark Tides" opens with clean guitar notes and turns into a power ballad of sorts, though that term is not really used any more in music, but you get the point. The chorus is balls-out; heavy and emotional, while the verses are more introspective and thoughtful. It leaves an impact on you sure and for me was one of the best songs on the album.

"Silent Witness" has a great set of chord progressions...it's a bit dark and suspenseful at times but that groovy riff just draws you in. A guitar solo that stays in track with the key is a nice support to the overall sound. "Enigmatic Smile" had a strong energy and I like the more prominent bass guitar notes here which really put a stamp on the aggressive sound.

"The Wall of Illusion" closes the album, opening with some zany electronic effects. From there, it morphs into a hasty and weighted sound, with a chorus of strong hooks. Some tender moments are present here as well, which add diversity to the track. Overall, this was a good listening experience from start to finish. It heavy and edgy enough for fans of Metal music but also melodic and thoughtful enough to tickle the fancy of those who want a little more emotion in the forefront of their music, and can appreciate some of the more cushy elements of music. I think the diversity of all of these elements on the album is the main strength of it.
