Architects of Power
Kingdom of Tyrants
A conception that many fans just can't understand is to play any Metal genre you can think of becomes an addiction in the life of musicians. It's hard to keep stopped after experiencing the energy of playing on a stage. And it's the true driving force of acts that has no compromise with anything that isn't playing. And maybe it's the best form of dealing with music, as stated on "Architects of Power", the first release of the North American quintet KINGDOM OF TYRANTS. It's an act with that old and always good form of playing traditional Heavy Metal of U.S.A. Metal bands of the 80s. The melodies are hooking and easy to be understood, the technical care is great (but never in a way that would overload the songs), as a combination of influences of JUDAS PRIEST, NWOBHM, North American Hard Rock from the 70s and all those good stuff the hearers are used to known.
But the songs are filled with energy, excellent melodies and an amazing load of energy, but always with an uncompromised feeling that is hard to resist to. But what one can expect of a band that has members that played on acts as MELIAH RAGE, STEEL ASSASSIN, BAD KARMA, and others? Clinton Lisboa (that previously worked with EATEN) worked as producer, and did the recording, mixing and mastering of "Architects of Power", giving the band an organic and crude sonority, but that is clean and defined, allowing the hearers to understand what the band is trying to express on its songs. It could be bit better, because the quintet's music asks for it, but's not bad at all. And the cover created by Brazilian artist Jobert Mello (of Sledgehammer Graphix) is really excellent.
The quintet's music, as previously said, is uncompromised and free of greater aspirations, but it's from where the value of their work comes. And it's a privilege to taste songs as "Unforgotten Souls" (a massive energy comes from its guitar riffs, with charming melodies and excellent chorus), "Daedalus" (where some Speed/Power Metal traces can be detected, and what a solid and good work from bass guitar and drums can be heard), "War Machine" (that traditional song with slower tempos that the other songs, but with melodies inherited from Hard Rock, and what lovely chorus), "Diabolical" (another one with influences of the past, especially of the NWOBHM days due the mix between Heavy Metal and Hard Rock influences), "Kingdom of Tyrants" (and oppressive and slow song with excellent melodies and charming vocals), "Masque of the Red Death" and "Metal or Die".
The truth is that KINGDOM OF TYRANTS isn't reinventing Metal or anything in this way, but the honesty and value of "Architects of Power" can't be measured or expressed in words, it's an experience that demands a careful listening (it won't hurt your feelings).
