Don't Mess With The King
King Of Bones
The classic Hard'n'Heavy Metal that we all know from the beginning of the 80s is a fine example as how music must be played without a high level degree of musical technique, but the results will be always good. The bands in this vein will have a safe way to go. There are some bands that follow this way and create something special, as the Brazilian quartet KING OF BONES, from São Paulo. They composed an excellent album with "We Are the Law," but with "Don't Mess With the King," they are many miles ahead.
Their musical style is that Hard'n'Heavy Metal in the same vein of BLUE MURDER, OZZY OSBOURNE (in his initial phase, until "No More Tears" era), DIO and many bands from the first half of the 80s. But the band's sonority is not something in an old fashion. No, their music sounds fresh, alive and full of energy, filled with many accessible moments, very good choruses and strong instrumental parts. It's truly catchy, so be prepared! Henrique Baboom (known for his works with Brazilian quartet PANZER) produced "Don't Mess With The King", and he made a fine job. The sound of the album is as clean as it is heavy as well, and the sound quality is way better than we heard on "We Are the Law." But there's a personal touch of musical elegance that will hook the listener as well.
The beautiful and excellent graphic part was created by Gustavo Sazes, reflecting the corruption in which Brazil is drowned since a long time. But that's another story. Their best songs: the hooks and heavy guitar parts (riffs and solos) from "No Way Out"; "Hold Me Closer" and its charming tempos and excellent vocal parts; the musically accessible and hooking elements from "Wherever You Are" (that presents a great work from bass guitar and drums); the heavy rhythm of "Walking on the Edge" (filled with a fine touch of musical swing, and presenting great vocals once more); the introspective "Black Angel" (with excellent dynamics between the musical instruments and the vocals, and fine keyboard parts played by Fábio Ribeiro); the musical beauty shown on introspective "Blinded By Faith"; the meeting of the modern sonority with classic musical elegance shown on "Dry Your Eyes on Me" (another excellent moment from vocals and keyboards); the AOR elements that permeate "I Am"; and the powerful and charming tempos from "Point of No Return". But the entire album is excellent. "Don't Mess With The King" is a great album, so be prepared to get hooked by KING OF BONES!
