King Of Asgard - To North album cover

Battles have been a very recurrent theme in Metal music, so recurrent, that sometimes I just want to feel peace, and kill all the gods and demons that appear in the lyrics, but this is not the case. KING OF ASGARD is a band that has made a name for itself among the 1000 other Viking Metal bands in the world, only armed with great talent and some very catchy riffs that try to simplify what has been done so very hard for them.

These guys bring the north and epic tales right to your ears, the vocal line is something that really amazed me. It is not the classic harsh voice, it is understandable, it has a lot of power and energy, and with the parallel of clean voices, is easier to catch the lyrics, and memorize them. Musically, they are very good at what they do; the rhythms fill perfectly in the percussion that has been created, strong voice (as I mentioned), catchy solos, strong bass lines, and one heel of a drum that manage to change for the sake of the song, but keeping the constant tempo that has been characteristic in Viking Metal.

This kind of Metal, especially in this release, has brought back that feeling of Nordic mythology, not only giving the strong battle sound, but the phase of calm before the storm and this has been done without acoustic guitars, for the surprise of every listener, and I say: I'm a huge fan of acoustic intervals, but here, they have been not missed.

All in all, KING OF ASGARD is a band with a great support behind them starting from the names that make part of it, whom come from bands like MITHOTYN or FALCONER, to the record company that is Metal Blade Records, and rest assure, they have honoured what's behind them. With that being said I can't imagine what's to come for this band, it sure will be Valhalla.
