King Heavy - King Heavy album cover

KING HEAVY is actually a band of two origins- most of the band players (Matias, Daniel and Miguel) are good friends of Chile, playing together since 2012. Yet it seems as if the real glue behind this crew is the fourth member from across the sea, Luce. Luce and Daniel met at a Doom Metal lovers' festival in '09, and since then, they were changing music ideas until finally this formation was set. At first, the threesome recorded a demo session. Afterwards, it was sent all the way to Belgium in order for Luce to record the vocals. Three years later, the result is set in front of us as the self-titled second album of this band.

This, I must say, is nothing of an ordinary Doom album. The music is slow, yet very interesting and filled with different sounds of guitars and bass. Bass being an instrument not usually heard clearly in Doom bands, this is a refreshing change. The drums are, unlike many other bands, leading and adding another layer to the music, in a way it is absolutely wonderful to hear. The vocals in this album, I think are for me the greatest quality. Luces' voice is deep and low, but in such a way he pulls the listener along and not pushing him back. For many parts it seems as if he is able to do anything with his voice and only chooses to keep it on the down-low.

Obviously, such as in almost any early album of any band, the work done here is not always accurate or free of mistakes young players has to make in order to learn and become great. Even though those things happen here, it is not hurting the ability to enjoy this album. Their work together is wonderful and the difference of cultures is not sensed for even one bit. I feel as if this work states something much greater than the work of four musicians, but the connections made by music and the love of music that knows no countries, states or even continents. It seems as if there's something in their music for each one of you metal lovers and it is highly recommended.<
