King Diamond - Dreams Of Horror (The Metal Blade Years) album cover

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen. Today we will be reviewing something different, a collection of songs from the Metal Blade years of the legend himself KING DIAMOND.

To start off what we have here is one hell of a collection of classics spanning almost the KING'S entire career from albums such as "Abigail" and "Voodoo", it is safe to say that any huge fans of KING DIAMOND will want to check this collection out, as well for new fans who are just getting into his work this would be a great place to start and see what you think of the King's work from over the years.

Before we go through the tracks I just want to say what a pleasure it is to be reviewing a collection of songs from such an incredible legend and I have to say what an honour it is to be doing this.

Let us really dig in shall we? Beginning with the track "Dreams", this is a classic hard hitting song that brings thrills and melodies into one place and creates this really powerful and amazing sense of performance that the KING is best known for, this track is one of his best without a doubt and continues to follow on as it is, strong heavy and beautiful without a doubt, this is something that makes you think of the power and sheer strength that this man is capable of as a vocalist and as a performer.

The next track I have chosen from this collection is the haunting track "Waiting". From start to finish this track takes you on a journey into the mind, through the lyrics it sounds like the King is taking us into a journey of raw horror and fear which there is no escape from, it is quite incredible when you see artists like King Diamond constructing these stories of imaginative specters and demons that seem so real but you know that in the end he is the guide taking us into a realm of the unknown and that's when everything snaps back and you realise just where you are.

The next treat I have chosen is the "Puppet Master". This is by far one of the "King's" most infamous songs for sure, it follows with this incredible double tracked vocal that leads us on and on into this tale of control and consumption, this song has a very haunting feel to it as it the listener is trapped in a wood shop full of self-controlled puppets rearing to take control of said listener and make them into their next tool. This has some powerful mental imagery that just takes you for a ride of unknown horrors yet somehow it makes everything so vivid and creative at the same time.

This collection is just incredible; there are some remastered tracks that although have been brightened up just by a bit still remain strong and so intense, this collection will take any KING DIAMOND fan to that special place to re live old memories and for new fans well what can I say this is truly something that will change your life for the better.
