Memoirs of a Murderer

I'm surprised that I hadn't at least heard of the band's controversial legacy by now, least of all their music. KING 810, from the streets of Flint, Michigan, are hear to release the meaty, emotional shocker of an album, "Memoirs of a Murderer", following their recent signing to Roadrunner Records. First impressions? Trashy, generic mallcore Nu-metal. Prolonged listening, however, revealed quite the opposite.
"Killem All" opens the album. Well-reknowned for rarking up a riot at their live shows, this seems like the perfect anthem for such an occasion. Musically, it is one of the best tracks on the record, if what you're looking for is unbridled, pure anger, fettered by what sounds like thin bindings that attempt to chain the beast to the ground. There's a heaviness there that you keep wishing would escape, and every time the chorus opens, it rears up and screams. First impressions of vocalist David is that of a man who exclaims his pained lyrics with a fluidly emotive evocations. "Murder Murder Murder" does what SLIPKNOT and KORN do, but does it better. Skimming over the albums lyrics aggregated as a generalisation does not leave much urge for listenability, but I strongly recommend that one reads the band's interviews and controversies to know where they are coming from; directly from conflict-torn streets, places where people should be ordinarily allowed to feel safe. This is a perfect example of the band's tendency to metaphorically depict the nature of humans based tendency for violence.
"Fat Around the Heart" is a genius development on the band's muse; most of the lyrics styled into angry, hateful, yet artistic, poetry stylings. Coupled with this are percussive riffs that accentuate each seething syllable. Lyrically, it is perhaps the best effort on the album; a chilling combination of anecdote and accounts of real-world experience. "War Outside" is a jarringly heavy track, made with peculiar riff arrangements. The pummellings feel punctuated, spontaneous and random at times, while at other times, lays down solid, accessible and catchy grooves, the heavy chugs of with exhude pure energy.
To appreciate KING 810 for the music you hear may not be sufficient for some. Initially, it wasn't for me, but I came to shed presumptions, and learned to want to learn.<
