Ready for the Apocalypse

Making themselves the as a 5 piece from São Luís, Maranhão KILLERY is a Thrash Metal act who is indeed ready for the apocalypse. Going strong since 2016 they make themselves stand out by focusing on the more melodic elements of Thrash Metal, still retaining the no-holds-barred outlook and mannerisms, but delving themselves more into the focus of melody, albeit in an askance way.
The album commences with the previously mentioned "Ready for the Apocalypse" a groove centered riff and beat opens up the track before both completely digress and the vocals join the mix. The lyrics focus on the exacting definition of the theme, which is the burgeoning inevitability of an apocalypse; the lyrics weigh heavy upon the focus of the listener describing transgressions and even mustering a full quote from the Book of Revelation. "No Rest for the Wicked" and "Prophet of Chaos" both follow the same theme resounding the ideas of persecution and violence at the cusp of the end of days. The latter of which plays on some weird harmonies during its break marking itself as different not just from the album, but from most other elements of the genre as a whole. The oddest song on the album, that is by definition of theme, has got to be "Fuck You All" which is defined by its hook, however the lyrics as a whole return to the ideologies of cynicism and penitence.
The guitar tones are gritty and diabolic playing on dark sounding harmonies and headbanging riffs and the usage of baroque progressions and descents is incredible conveying a sound unfamiliar to convention. The bass is heavy and steady tying together the song without incident or mistake but still providing color, shape, and emphasis to the music as a whole. The drums are a bit basic in terms of beat but provide interesting and unusual emphasis with cymbal accents. The singing is dirty, corrosive, and aggressive a perfect combination for the music, and one that blends perfectly in lyrics as well as they focus on aspects of the spiritual and macabre.
KILLERY marks themselves as a black sheep in the fold by marching to the beat of their own drum, and does so unhindered and well defined drawing in the interest of the listener more and more with every track. One of the most impressive aspects of the album is the level of professionalism that lies within the mixing and sound design, as it was all done independent of a label.
