Peace Through Tyranny
Kill Division
When the ranks of a band have known musicians, the fans start to have ideas of how a project would sound, and it's dangerous. No one can say what a band plays without having the experience of listening to it. And to be honest, no one could prevent what KILL DIVISION would play on "Peace Through Tyranny", because it's nothing one could think before this album could come to the light.
On the quartet's ranks are guys that played on acts as EX DEO, INHUMAN CONDITION, VENOM INC., MASSACRE, MEGADETH, METAL AGAINST CORONAVIRUS, DEVIN TOWNSEND, ABORTED, SOILWORK, AT THE GATES SATYRICON, TESTAMENT, GRUESOME, LEFT TO DIE, MALEVOLENT CREATION, KULT OV AZAZEL and others. No one could say that this set of experienced musicians would unleash a violent and brutal form of classic Grindcore (in the vein of NAPALM DEATH and TERRORIZER) mixed with Death Metal influences. It's technically simple, brutal and noisy, but with a massive energy that binds the fans to the band. And it's really great to hear such album!
Jeramie Kling did the mixing (and well as worked on the recordings and as sound engineer for guitars and bass), as Dirk Verbeuren worked on the recording and engineering (of the drums) and Gus Ríos did the same (for the vocals), leaving the mastering to the hands of JF Dagenais the mastering. All to make things defined, clean, but bearing that rough and nasty approach of Grindcore acts. It's brutal and aggressive, but in a way that is understandable.
"If You Only Knew" and "Surrounded by Filth" (both being brutal songs that bears that essential aggressiveness inherited of Hardcore, especially on the guitars), "Peace Through Tyranny" (a faster song with grunts and snarls being the high-lights), "Freak" and "Cultists" (where Death Metal influences are clearer, and what brutal and effective work of bass guitar and drums), "Battle Scarred Creation" (a brutal piledriving of chaos and plenty with Hardcore influences), and their version for TERRORIZER's "Barely Alive" are the right ones to check the strength and aggressiveness of the band.
Let's wait to see if "Peace Through Tyranny" will be just one shot or is the first album of a band that wants to keep on the road. But the wish that one will have after listening to it is that KILL DIVISION must keep on its musical efforts!
