Ukraine is a nation known for hailing a multitude of unique musicians with an impressive touch on Metal. While Ukraine isn't remembered for any major contributions to Thrash, or let's say Heavy Metal, the country is still a house for some of the best Black Metal musicians in the Metal World. Bands such as DRUDKH and NOKTURNAL MORTUM are prominent example, and to their ranks we'll add the band in today's discussion: KHORS.

"Night Falls onto the Fronts of Ours" is the latest album by Khors released on Candlelight Records, a cult known for releasing good underground pieces for obscure metal music fans to enjoy. Musically, this album is a mixture between violent and melodic Black Metal with a pinch of Slavonic pride dominating the entire atmosphere. What maintains coherency and keeps this album fresh are two things: (a) the astounding guitar techniques that I rarely witness in Black Metal releases, and (b) the subtle existence of keyboards throughout the album that, instead of adding a symphonic feel, end up enticing feelings of bitter coldness that only make a release like this more worthwhile. Standout tracks here include "Dead Birds Valley" and the last and favorite piece of mine, "My Cossack Way".

Production-wise, we're looking at a perfect blend of traditional Slavic Black Metal that defines the Black Metal production style that hails from that region and defines its bands' sound. "Night Falls onto the Fronts of Ours" is clean, but not DIMMU BORGIR kind of clean. It's clean in that you hear what you're meant to hear without any disregard to any of the instruments and vocals being displayed.

I recommend KHORS' LP to all fans of the band and those who follow and desire to be up to date to emerging sounds in the Black Metal realm. What you'll get is a combination of Pagan and Orthodox Black Metal. 8 stars well deserved.
