Keep the Promise

I'll start by saying this album blew me away, not necessarily in the sense that I think it's a superb record, because I don't. More in the sense that the Italian's speed, aggression and intensity knocked me back in my chair and I had to take a break just to get my head in order.
As I've mentioned this album is by no means a world beater, it's good but no more than that. It can, however, be used perfectly if you ever needed a little alertness boost. The longest song on the record "I Will Curse" comes in at just over four minutes and many tracks don't even make it past the three minute mark. Think of it as a collection of adrenaline rushes, because that's exactly what it is. Each track punches you hard in the face, hiding nothing, and leaves you mentally bleeding out in the street.
The album as a whole is an angry political assault on the corruption and strife so prevalent in Italy, and indeed world, politics, we've all heard of Silvio Berlusconi haven't we? But it also deals with topics such as religious fanaticism, women, and animal abuse. It is basically an attack on everything that can be seen to be wrong with the modern world.
Musically there's very little variation, each song is as uncompromisingly vicious and bitter as the last. Furious pounding drums, guitars and bass, set a bedrock from which vocalists M.V. and Mirco 'Mitch' Tincani can lay down their verbal assault on the establishment and political elite. It's hard to pick a standout track as they are all relatively indistinguishable from each other, and given the overarching theme of the album this is not really much of an issue.
If, however, you put a gun to my head and I had to choose some standout tracks, I would probably go for "Bloody Uniform", "Guilty Politicans" and "Demons Of Surrender", but honestly I could pick three tracks out of a hat and be satisfied with the results. The only moment where the tempo dips is the final track "Life... Dies", which is an uncharacteristically atmospheric, instrumental outro to the album, and serves as a warm, soothing bath to rest, and heal the wounds that have been inevitably picked up from the listening experience.
So, as mentioned, it's good, but not great. If you're feeling pissed off with the world, or you just need a shot of adrenaline, then "A Peaceful Mission Of War" will do the job to a tee. Smash the system.
