You have to love that album cover. They say they have a love of symbolism and geometry, well this makes perfect sense then. Probably of the best album covers I have this year bar bone. The Perugia, Italy band is out and about with they first EP called ''Wheel of Time''. I am pretty sure its not related to the wheel of time books from acclaimed writer Robert Jordan. This is more an epic journey in the time we love and hate at the same time. Time is of an essence and time cannot be stopped, the wheel of time is what we make of it and we are destined by a path we construct and time is just a necessity, as well as inevitable. That's how I see the name of the album persay.

Three songs and about 15 minutes of music is difficult to grasp. It's not a lot to sink your teeth into, when you starting really digging the music, it ends unfortunately. It did take me a few listening sessions on the bus home to discover the intricacies of the music though. This band is mostly instrumental, you have some lyrics here and there but they are more lamentations and dark narration from the singer. They are not something I enjoyed though and it felt kind of out of place with the rest of the music. This band did not need any singer nor singing parts, the music speaks for itself in my honest opinion.

This band is a mixed bag of different styles. You have a lot of middle eastern elements which I thoroughly enjoyed, it does give some balance and textures to some of the songs from this EP. You have also that slow crawling doom like SLEEP, the forefathers of the genre but you also have this post-metal / post-rock feeling. The first band that came to mind when I listened to this EP over and over again was RUSSIAN CIRCLES, the critically acclaimed instrumental band out of Chicago. They were really reminiscent of what this band has done throughout the last decade.

You got some Doom elements, Post-Metal elements and the added texture of middle eastern instruments mixed into it. It's a mishmash of genres but they fit rather well together and I would have loved a full-length album but coming from a independent band from a small town in Italy, they did a fine job establishing their sound. A nice and pleasant surprise.
