Karnak Seti - The Distance That Makes Us Cold album cover

"The Distance That Makes Us Cold", the new album from KARNAK SETI is here and although this is my first experience with them, first impressions mean everything. What I do know is if it's a good album, there's a couple more before it to check out. Let's see what kind of impression KARNAK SETI can leave.

Kicking off with "The Bliss of Living" and "Bounded By Misfortune" the album instantly gives off some Metalcore/Deathcore sort of gives mixed with more recent DECAPITATED. For the most part actually, the album sounds like a continuation of the last DECAPITATED albums with the only real difference being the -core infusions in the riffs and having a few breakdowns scattered through the album.

Some songs though, like "A New Time To Heal" for instance, take on a much more melodic sound both instrumentally and vocally. For songs like the aforementioned "A New Time To Heal" it almost sounds like an entirely new band a lot of the time. To be honest, as much as I like DECAPITATED, if I wanted to listen to them I would and for that simple reason I think the second half of this album, where it almost gets a whole new identity, is far better than the first half.

I love the different styles KARNAK SETI infuse in "The Distance That Made Us Cold" makes it a bit unpredictable and intriguing. The second half is a huge step up from the beginning and if you're a fan of old school Death Metal like DECAPITATED or you're just a Melodic Death Metal fan, this is an album highly worth checking out.
