No Light But Darkness Visible

KARMIC LINK is the brainchild of Stathis, the keyboard player of the band, who decided to put on an album all his musical ideas. This work started back in 2006 and after two years No Light But Darkness Visible reached METAL TEMPLE for reviewing purposes.
The first thing you notice as Over You kicks in is that the keyboards have an important role in KARMIC LINK's music signature. Most of the times the keyboards are the main element in the rhythm section adding depth to the music wandering through Industrial cold planes under a 'hidden' Progressive Metal lining. The vocals belong to the female throat of Mrs Mina who is a mezzo-soprano and does her part in the atmospheric character of the album.
Some influences that I can mention to describe the musical whereabouts of this fresh band are TYPE O NEGATIVE especially in the mid tempo parts and late more melodic (and less heavy) PARADISE LOST. The name SISTERS OF MERCY popped in mind during the Gothic Metal and atmospheric parts of songs like Still Here or the groovy Paralyzed.
The album features two instrumental tracks Devil's Dance, and the almost outro No Light But Rather Darkness visible. The first is fast and melodic comprising the namely Euro Power Metal recipe of guitar versus keyboard duel. Bob Katsionis from the Greek Power metallers FIREWIND recorded all the guitars in the album and maybe he had some involvement in the aforementioned track's structure and overall sound.
This is a nice album that is filled with ideas making rather difficult to put a label in the music direction. Generally, this is a good thing for a debut album but I believe a band needs to have a more distinct artistic character to start with and then evolve to obtain the covetable and why not original sound.
