Karg - Resilienz album cover

Founded in 2006 as a one-man project, then evolving into a live band; Austria's KARG release their newest EP 1-22-2021, "Resilienz". Translating to "resilience" in english, this album is aptly named as this is a band who relies heavily on topics from various life issues. Such as, addiction, loss, suicide, depression, and more; KARG considers their lyrical content as important as the musical notes produced. In which case, I heavily agree. Lyrics that talk about things we all go through are the songs that ultimately help us through our dark times. This is an original combination of styles ranging from atmospheric black metal, post rock, grunge, shoegaze, and post punk.

"Abbitte" - Trance like notes swept in seas of atmospheric black metal vocals. I can't help but think how the musical overtures remind me a little of past UNREVITED works. With its fantasy sounding melodic side at forefront, mixed with some harder guitar; this song definitely hits all the aforementioned mix of genres. The guitar in here is nice and really carries the feeling of the song well. The keyboard notes laced throughout really add to the depth of the sound as a whole. "Lorazepam" - The first thing that stands out to me about this song is the choice of name. Lorazepam is a pharmaceutical drug used to treat anxiety, seizure disorders, and a few other things. I am familiar with it because I had a boyfriend who was epileptic, and ultimately lost him to the condition. Although the connotations here are more for the anxiety portion of its use, interesting song name, for sure. The musical parts of this song are amazing and soothing, in that way only metal can be. And while the instrumental part grips your heart, the vocals bring forth the rage of metal.

"Resilienz", while only having two songs on it, the EP is a full ride. It is worth noting that the first song comes in at around 15 minutes long and the second one 20 minutes, two songs does not equate to lack of content here. The guitar throughout is phenomenal, really carrying the weight of the emotional intent. KARG has really delivered some great content here.
