Kamelot - One Cold Winter's Night album cover

The second live Kamelot album is a fact. Youngblood's team released back in 2000 their first live album called The Expedition. This album was recorded during the band's tour around Europe for the support of The Fourth Legacy album and it was recorded by Sascha Paeth in Germany and Greece (if I'm not mistaken). This second live album was recorded in the tour for the promotion of the Black Halo album (I think this recording was a one-off show) and it is released in two different versions: as a double CD and a Double CD plus DVD. This review is for the double CD.
Looking at the set list Kamelot performed that night is more than obvious that it is based on the band's latest three releases Karma / Epica and The Black Halo, especially the last two ones that are both parts of one concept album. In case you are wondering how heavy Kamelot can sound during one of their live shows, considering the fact that their music has done a U turn to a more symphonic style once Khan joined their ranks, I can assure you that they sound quite heavier than they do on their albums. They do have a keyboard player and, I assume, a lot of pre-recorded orchestral parts but the guitar is way much in front compared with their studio works making their show really interesting.
And what about Khan? Well it's not a coincidence that the I make my name shorter as time passes by man is considered one of the best vocalists in heavy metal as we speak. It's always a pleasure to listen Khan perform with his so unique voice. The way he handles the multi-layered material of Kamelot is a wonder indeed.
I know that some of you would like to see in this live album some really old tunes. But considering the fact that even in their first live album there was only one track from their debut work (Call Of The Sea) chances for such a thing to happen where more than thick. Still I think the set delivered by Kamelot is really a great one.
In conclusion this is another excellent release under the belt of this band. Fans of symphonic power metal check it out.
