Antillius: The King of the Light

"Antillius: The King of the Light" is a slab of pure Melodic Power Metal with Operatic/Epic/Tragic flavored accent and a strong propensity to be at the edge of the style, between ultra flamboyant and cheesy jubilation (of Steel), with an ambitious arsenal of elements set in the pure Germanic & Scandinavian Method and its spaghetti replica: KALEDON holds a special rank in the Italian underground scene and in this specific hierarchic Metallic aristocracy, they are respected as true pioneers or even survivors but mostly as guardians of the tradition, their admirable dedication is unquestionable.
After many average releases, the successful album "Altor: The King's Blacksmith" (2013) was the long awaited revelation for the more mainstream Metal world, today with the conceptual album "Antillius: The King of the Light" following the long saga of "Legend of the Forgotten Reign", this is an even stronger confirmation of this fact: KALEDON are at their absolute best, clearly reaching the top of this highly tagged genre!
After the mandatory ambient introduction, "The Calm Before the Storm" reveal a new tendency based on a syncopated warrior pace, a virginal mystical mode in the glorious heroic fantasy theme, with a new found mode of twilight harmonization. The most impressive moment is "The Angry Vengeance" in this particular cut Mr Marco Palazzi seconded by a powerful choir, sounds like an incredible valid Timo Kotipelto clone with maybe a better mastery of his tone and a damn great range .
"The Fallen King" is also adventurous and particularly interesting, thanks to a structure in the shape of a labyrinth and many unexpected twist, very progressive in the shape, enhanced with many subtle polyphonic arrangments. Obviously in numbers like "Elisabeth" -with Angela Di Vincenzo as guest vocalist- or "The Glorious Blessing" it brings to mind some well known compatriot comparisons in a burning rhapsody of sound with fighting Anthems, Symphonic overtones, Neo Classical ecstasy and bombastic arrangments (of fire). Not easy to catch in its plenitude at first but definitely a grower...The battle against Evil has begun...The crusader ships are awaiting for you (in the night)!<
