Radiance of Doom
Kadavereich

Black/Death Metal is a form of music that really has an ample set of possibilities of being played. There are many formats to be used, from Old School forms in the ways done by SARCÓFAGO, BLASPHEMY and BEHERIT to the ones used by BEHEMOTH and HATE. It's a matter of doing what comes from your heart. And it can be said that the Russian quintet KADAVEREICH made their choice, as can be heard on "Radiance of Doom", their latest EP.
The band uses a caustic and classic form of Old School Death/Black Metal that was used in the late years of the 80's and early days of the 90's. It's brutal and oppressive, with a level of technique that isn't exaggerated, focusing in something that creates a nasty and crude ambience, with musical brutality being expressed with contrasts of fast and slow parts. It's obvious that it's nothing new at all, but the band shows potential to create something even better. The sonority is the weak point of "Radiance of Doom". Unfortunately, the band uses a moldy and smoky approach that creates hardships to understand what they are doing. It seems as they tried to make the EP sound as albums as "Fallen Angel of Doom" or "Drawing Down the Moon" (classics for the fans of the genre), but today, the possibilities that exist would allow them to sound crude, but in a defined way.
"Invincible Sun Devourer" is a massive and brutal song with fast tempos, based on extreme grunts and nasty guitars, as "Caldarium of Boiling Blood" shows the same elements, but with a solid work of bass guitar and drums. On "CCCIII", the band shows some Black/Thrash Metal hooks on good guitar riffs, and "Dismal Radiance of Doom" is a massive blow of crude energy, with good grunts filling the song. If the sonority could be a bit cleaner, things would improve, and this last offering of the quintet could be better.
Yes, unfortunately, "Radiance of Doom" is their last work, because due the statement written on their Bandcamp profile, they're stopping their activities (maybe due the war, and all the xenophobia that arose of it). And it's a pity, because KADAVEREICH had potential to be great. Maybe such aspects can depict to some people the true value of peace, and the need to rip dictators from power...
