Kadavar - Kadavar album cover

Heavily influenced by CARCASS's middle era or DEATH's technical albums, these Italians cannot offer - in their debut CD - something special, at least for my personal taste. They have a modern perspective, see bands like DECAPITATED, with their songs looking more like a riffing patchwork without affinity.
It's more than sure that Death Metal music doomed and ruined with records like Necroticism or The Sound Of Perseverance. Instead of the old Death Metal feel with the rotting sniff of the grave, the whole scene moved to something more ear-friendly in order to reach the mainstream areas. KADAVAR are not far from that. There is no element of madness or anger and their music seems so much calculated with the consequence of losing any sound naturalness. You can surely trace some good ideas, for example the nice refrain in Behind The Storm or the opening From Flesh To Sorrow but they fail to create deep emotions. There is nothing REALLY extreme inside and all tracks can be characterized as anti-baleful.
Of course in a review personal tastes should not play the protagonist role. In this way, I can say that if someone out is into such style of Death Metal, here he will find a good band that has worked a lot in their material. The melodic solos may impress, while many times they are looking very tight as a group. Last but not least, the instrumental Mirror Of Lies is a beautiful way for a record's wrap-up.
