Kaamos Warriors

KAAMOS WARRIORS are now three albums deep in to a musical journey around "nature and its beauty and harshness, winter, darkness and the cold climate of the North". This trio of musicians absolutely slam out that vibe as only a band from Kempele, Finland could with their latest work. You can brace yourself from the start for lyrical themes of death, existentialism and the dark places of one's own mind.
Starting out with fast paced fury "Askeleet" fans its groove down and grinds through. The vocals are deep and striking, but not at all out of place with the track. My jaw dropped at the absolute sweeping journey delivered by the lead guitar on this track, and it wasn't even the feel of a solo as much as the track just demanded the notes move that way. It is with "Tounentuoja" we get a feel for the mastery of soundscape in this album. It is slow, purposeful, and conveys emotion for days. Strings begin to accompany the song in perfect increments, as well as very thoughtful and precise lead guitar layers. The whole track tiptoes the line of being showy, but honestly is just refined talent.
"Tuli" opens with a deep and forceful bellow of vocals, followed by some of the most thought provoking rhythm playing on the album. I don't know if anyone picked it up yet, but I absolutely lost my stuff for the guitar playing in this review. I need to learn this one. The piece of this track that threw me for a hard loop was actually the sound seemingly dropping back to accentuate the cymbal work going on. My favorite of the album. "Elävän Tulen Liekki" is a departure from the norm with the album, giving a defined verse and chorus feel not seen elsewhere. Outside of that, the track feels so different with the style of violin played over the still powerful and emotionally persuasive metal jams. These guys apparently do it all.
KAAMOS WARRIORS will be on the up and up with this album. The fine details lined over an overall powerful delivery leave me waiting for the next release (hints are already dropped on facebook that they are in the works for a full length 4th album). I would listen to and review this piece any day of the week.
