José Ferro - Of Darkness and Desire album cover

I am at an age that I have some amazing friends that I have gotten to know over the years. And some of them have connections to artists that are interesting for us as Heavy Metal lovers, but don't get the chance or recognition of the record companies. If that is the case, they ask me if it is possible for them to send me the material, so I can review it. In the case of José Ferro, he is the bassist on the bonus EP that was released on the MOONROCK album with vocalist Schmoulik Avigal. I reviewed that album last year, and obtained it through the same channel that provided me with this "Of Darkness And Desire" album. When he reads this, he knows who he is, and I am grateful that he thought of me again this time.

As far as this goes musically, this is Old School Heavy Rock & Metal pur sang. You will not find any other influences intertwined into this at any rate. The bassist and band leader JOSÉ FERRO is from Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. His companion Apollo Papathanasio might sound familiar to you, but that is because he is/was the lead singer of SPIRITUAL BEGGARS and FIREWIND. It's good thing that he was recruited to add his vocal lines to "Of Darkness And Desire", as he is the perfect addition to the music. Like I said, Old School Heavy Rock & Metal with keyboards where needed.

As for the songs, they range from the Power Ballad "Turning Away" to the very powerful opening track "Generation Evil". The eight songs on the album only ad up to some 28 minutes, and I feel that JOSÉ FERRO could have easily added some more, as listening to it all is not exactly a punishment. And the fact that the production of it all is beyond heavy only adds to the realisation that I am very eager to hear more of JOSÉ FERRO. If he uses "Of Darkness And Desire" as his benchmark, there is a lot more to be enjoyed in the future. If, though, you wish to enjoy more of him right now, just go to the Bandcamp link that is in the comments, and you will find two more albums that José Ferro was part of. I must admit that I haven't done this (yet), so I can't give you a reference.
