From Brighton UK, JONESTOWN (I think the name of the band is a reference to the mass suicide of hundreds of people following reverend Jim Jones religious sect in united stated in the 70's) is a band that likes to create around catastrophe themes or huge cataclysms. Their brand new album is called "Dyatlov" and correct me if I am wring must refer to the tragedy that happened in Russia when like 9 skiers found death on Mount Dyatlov.

The first track "Burn Victim" has a very nu-metal sound, the guitars are edgy and sharp. A lot f fast breakdowns can be heard. The vocals are very aggressive...the lead ones are almost death metal. The backing vocals are more high. That guitar sound isn't my cup of tea but it shows great skills. The drums are a little generic, lost in the multiple layers chaos that bass and guitars provide.  The second track "Blunt Force Nihilist" has a great groove and is more moving that the first. This one sounds better to me. It sounds like Phil Anselmo singing with extreme metal musicians and core influenced ones. The guitar riffs are a little repetitive though, maybe more variations would have been better. It needs more cuts, change, it sure does have some but the wait is long. This song is like a nightmare, the good way.

"Novae" starts fast , like there is no time to waste. The vocals are very aggressive. This is very intense and proper to violence...mosh pit ready chaos. Some of the elements of the song are quite the same that I already heard in the first ones. "Abyss" offers riffs a la GOJIRA a little. Sounds like GOJIRA stuck in a chaotic nightmare. The vocals are in the forefront, so much that the guitars sounds like accessories. I like that one except for the passages where the guitars produce too much notes that it kills the emotion of the moment. But they have great musicianship.

"Dyatlov" is the title track and is very catchy. Once again its "in your face",hyperactive, maximum energy full speed ahead powerblast. "The Scorpion and the F" show the same energy, and I feel like taking the same train. I  need to breathe a little. Not that its not good, it's TOO MUCH. "The People's Temple" refers to the tragedy of entire leaded by JIM JONES in the U.S.A resulting in a mass murder or mass suicide. It a more rhythmic more vibe, more groove makes this track good. The vocals are pretty extreme, and the music fits a lot the story. "Cut Throat Lane" is the same straight forward fast riffing , chaotic shredding and overwhelming aggressive singing. "History of a Drowning Boy" is written more like death metal and its pretty good one. More of an Outro for the first five minutes,"The Pass" is a cool idea with female "shamanic" vocals, more spacy ambiance I really like it reminds me of BETRAY MY SECRETS song "Shamanic dream"

Fans of metal core will surely find what they are for here. In my book this is a great album, with musicians that have potential, but the problem for me is that it's too much in some ways. It is saturated with a hundred notes and it got boring a couple of times. But for the hyperactive ones that having a break is a waste of time, dive into it.
