John Garcia - The Coyote Who Spoke In Tongues. album cover

Some Metal and Rock fans can become extremely distressed and disappointed with an album from a musician that they already knew before from other bands. But people need to understand a thing: if the artist in question wants to do an album likewise he/she does with his normal band, why in the blazes does he/she need to do a solo album? With this in mind, now we can talk properly of "The Coyote Who Spoke in Tongues", the new solo album from John Garcia, former KYUSS vocalist.

It can really be a shocking experience for the fanatics and some narrowed minds, but this time, John presents an acoustic album. Yes, it's entirely acoustic, with no electric guitars or drums. Of course, it can remind you from Blues and Country music, Southern Rock and other styles. But the album is really amazing, because the arrangements are very good indeed, and the songs have that excellent aesthetics that bind us all. The album was recorded and mixed by Steve Feldman and Robbie Waldman, and the mastering was done by Gene "The Machine" Grimaldi, all of these processes took place at Oasis Mastering, in California. And the result is a clear and really organic sound quality, with all the musical instruments clear to our ears.

In some parts, we can feel the old LED ZEPPELIN feeling, due the excellent nature of John's voice, but as well due the experimental acoustic touch that permeates every song of "The Coyote Who Spoke in Tongues". The best songs of the album are the intense and lovely acoustic guitar parts on "Kylie", the tender and introspective ones "Green Machine" and "Give Me 250ml", the excellent musical arrangements shown on "Space Cadet" and "Gardenia" (this one is really a tutorial of how sing in an acoustic session), and the excellent "Argleben II". On the version I have here with me, there are two live songs, "The BLVD" and "Give Me 250ml" as well. Although the album could have some more energetic songs, "The Coyote Who Spoke in Tongues" is really very good, and John Garcia shows his musical diversity. I hope that a part two will come in the future.
