Jimi Jamison's 'hot spot' is his SURVIVOR days, OK. From the time he first joined the multi-platinum American rockers' ranks (circa 1984) it was obvious the ex-COBRA/TARGET vocalist would score multiplied fame; truth is Jamison's voice still is excellent and - hence - no bad credit would he accept in defense of some fine AOR/Melodic Rock/Hard Rock blend he carries on the last 30+(!) years.
First solo output by Jimi came in 1991, first time after he dropped off the SURVIVOR camp (more precisely, the band themselves called it quits). When Love Comes Down (and Empires, that followed) was nothing more or less than a step in his familiar field, while - weird enough - he had in prior recorded a 'cover' take on SURVIVOR's Ever Since The World Began track from the Eye Of The Tiger album (original singer in the band then: Dave Bickler) as his offering to Sylvester Stallone's Lock Up movie (1989).
Anyway, Crossroads Moment sees Jimi Jamison out of SURVIVOR (again - ex-SAMURAI/MSG frontman Robin McAuley did step in) after recording the Reach CD in 2006, and what you'd expect to listen to from this well-esteemed singer (here collaborating with also ex-SURVIVOR mainman Jim Peterik, now crafting masterpieces with PRIDE OF LIONS) is right here waiting. Classy 'mature' AOR/Melodic Rock music with no bombastic rhythms or sounds but - nonetheless - quality music from the heart. Major-scaled songs are included here (in a JOURNEY/SURVIVOR mode) but the heartache ones are the whole deal. In here it is the value of a singer like Jimi talking. Passionate, warm, distinct, hopeful, sentimental...all in one from an artist who's as solemn as he's been all these years of discography (and not only in SURVIVOR). He's 57 years old now, and his voice's like good ol' wine.
Memphis-based Jimi Jamison has a new solo album out, called Crossroads Moment. You belong to the AOR field and adore the 'golden' SURVIVOR era? Then, do not think of something else; this album's excellent and it's for you.
