Jess And The Ancient Ones

The very special guests to the North American KING DIAMOND tour are this interesting, Psychedelic/Occult Rock band fronted by Jess. Jess And The Ancient Ones have a very 70s Rock sound to them. It's not over the top in any way, everything has a very groove oriented sound to it. Svart Records hit a home run grabbing this band, and King made a very... Interesting choice picking this band for his only support on his tour.
This being a whopping 2 tracks means I will only talk about one of them, this isn't a song by song review after all. So we will talk about the title track, "Castaneda" and it's rocking groove. This is one of the few times you'll hear such a prominent bass in a band, and its shocking seeing as this band as 3 guitars that could easily over power it. The riffs are basic but very memorable to this song, the lyrics are catchy just like the rest of the song and Jess absolutely melts your mind with her voice. This is the kind of thing you would expect to see people hanging out getting stoned to. In the middle of the song you hear the backing vocals from Thomas Fiend just going "ha, ho, ha" and surprisingly this adds a whole other layer to the songs spell it puts on you.
Jess And The Ancient Ones will put a spell over you and transport you to another world, their music is unreal and its understandable why they were asked by King to join the band on the North American tour. Check them out, see them with the master himself and let their spell control you.
