JENA are an Italian Stoner Metal band, with some Blues and Doom influences. Formed in 2012, they released their first album in 2016 called Womandile with a much different line-up. Guido is the only member from this new release to have performed on the 2016 album, which was also released under a different record label. After some troubling times with the line-up and personal issues, they look to establish a new image and sound with the latest release.

The album starts off with the track "1K Riffs Man" and feels like a heavier hitting punk song with some great energy, it is a great way to blast off the album in just over two minutes. It is followed up by the chunky riff filled song "Ice From the Sky", and you can understand the Blues and Southern style influence, as it takes over the song at the beginning. I also get a 90's grunge feeling from these guys, with a SOUNDGARDEN, or a little heavier tempoed ALICE IN CHAINS coming to mind as examples. The song itself is well put together and the vocals match well with the feel of the music, with a PANTERA style delivery of the vocals. The doom element to the band mainly comes out in bass and it is apparent in the next track "Slave No More". Though it does not seem to last too long as for when the guitars enter, the tempo is usually picked up, which goes for most of the songs on the album. This song is a rock out with your cock/vagina out style of tune. Punchy drums and rumbling bass work eventually gives way to a little guitar solo, while the guitars remain working together for rapid blues finish.

We come to the next track "Skull Mountain" that has a tempo change throughout the chorus that is worked in well. There are some duo guitar solos that come together in the song, and it also has some cool hooks that can catch your attention. "Seventh Sun of the Seventh Sun" is a slow flowing rock song that although fits together well, does not jump out and grabs your attention. The bass does sound good throughout but there could be much more to the song, but it seems like they decide to hold back. "Graboid" ends the album and starts off with some cool drums to create build up and tension, but kind of fails to kick it up a notch and resembles a light, fat-free offering of a VOLBEAT. The song is not a bad song, but just leaves you wanting a little more. The bass has a strong sound and with the drums, creates some power to the rhythm that carries the song through, which seems to be a repeating pattern throughout the album.

The album as a whole is not poorly put together, and I could see the appeal of catching them at a local bar on a Saturday night, as it has a party rock vibe that will always have appeal. There is a good energy that is created, but there is some repetitiveness that seems to hold it back. Being the first release from a band that is trying to reinvent themselves and their sound as a band, it would be interesting to see how their future releases are presented.
