Into the Deep
INTO THE DEEP is a "Dive Metal" band from North Carolina, USA. Their latest album here has six songs, and the title track is first. The riff is low, heavy and the harsh vocals give the song a Doom edge. Dive Metal is a good description of the sound, because there isn't much excitement in the music. "Sandblasted" is another heavy song. The band has the bottom end of their music covered pretty well, but they just need some other elements to get it off the ground. "Seaweed" is a sludgy song that has elements of BLACK SABBATH, and the clean vocals provide a nice, melancholy change of pace. There are also some subtle melodies in this song, and I like the direction the band is taking.
"Spaceshark" begins with a guitar riff thick in effects. From there, the sound is a little psychedelic and some of the progressions are intriguing. But the song ends before the band can explore more. "Nothing" has a slow, weighted sound, fueled by harsh vocals. The clean vocals in the chorus give the song an edge. The band is headed into some uncharted territory now. "Hammerhead" closes the album, and it's a fitting closer for the album. The song is heavy and punishing. Overall, it was a bit difficult fitting the album into a sub-genre of Metal, but that is really only a high brow concern. Six songs were just enough for me to get the band's flavor, and their Doomy sound is provocative. I would welcome listening to more from the band.Purchase Link:
