Blood Spits, Violence and Tears

For a great many bands of extreme genres of music, production qualities are of a limited value. For many Black and Death Metal acts, pristine and polished sounds are less important than sheer brutality and speed. Lots of the time, this works. For INSULTER's "Blood Spits, Violence and Insults" collection, however, it doesn't.
Sounding like it was recorded in a bathroom using a laptop mic (before laptops with inbuilt mics were even a thing), while the players were completely out of it, or even in different rooms, this collection of demos probably ought to remain on the cutting room floor. The idea of secret demos released from "before the band got big" is one that gets repeated, sometimes with really interesting results.
INSULTER's music not only has bad production, but the mismatched and mistimed high-speed slop-fest just doesn't cut it. The vocal line is incomprehensible and bares little relation to the rest of the band.
The balance of the tracks is completely out- the different instruments are at completely different volumes, which means that the balance is miles away from creating anything even remotely listenable. The vocals and guitars are incredibly loud, and the drums are almost inaudible. Bass? That's pretty much non-existent.
In a couple of the songs, there are attempts at guitar solos, ("Sacrifice", or "Beyond the Twilight Line" for example), but these un-rhythmic, melody-free moments of guitar are utterly useless. The guitars are too overdriven and saturated; making out any distinction between notes or rhythms is barely possible.
As a collection of demos from this band, maybe it would have interest and worth to an uber-fan or collector. To everyone else, there are much better collections of early-years demos on the market. Get those instead and save yourself the torture of listening to this.
