Hypothermia
Insinnerator
When dealing with North American Thrash Metal, one must have in mind that there are different forms of the genre: One that is based on an aggressive sound full of melodies inherited of NWOBHM and other sources. METALLICA, MEGADETH, ANTHRX, TESTAMENT, DEATH ANGEL and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM are on this trench; those bands with an aggressive sound that would influence Death Metal. This is the trench where SLAYER, DARK ANGEL, EXODUS and POSSESSED (during "Beyond the Gates" and "The Eyes of Horror" days) can be found; the mix between Metal with North American Hardcore traces. This is where names as NUCLEAR ASSAULT, WHIPLASH, MUNICIPAL WASTE and VIO-LENCE are; and the mix of Thrash Metal in the melodic sense with the Groove influences. This is the territory of PANTERA and MACHINE HEAD.
So the trio INSINNARATOR, coming Dallas (Texas) can be in one of these forms. And after listening to their 2012's EP "Hyporthemia" (that's being reissued now), it will be easy to find their place. Musically, they can be said in an Old School Thrash Metal way that's near to what DARK ANGEL and NUCLEAR ASSAULT are, playing fast and savage, but always with a massive aggressiveness and a with clear Hardcore/Crossover influences. Obviously, such approach isn't new at all, but they show talent and potential to evolve in the future (without leaving what they are). It's really good, and filled with a massive energy.
The production of the EP was meant to be dry and heavy, to expose their aggressive ideas and Hardcore/Crossover influences. It could be better, because some tunes became a little 'flat' in some moments (especially the guitars). "Burned Alive" is fast and aggressive, full of that old and good adrenalized energy based on strong guitar riffs, and "Pentagram" shows the same tendency (just with a better technical work, and a solid conduction of rhythms by bass guitar and drums). "Hypothermia" is an experimental instrumental song, coming before the nasty and brutal blow of energy that "Elemental Ice Dragon" unleashes (with very good tempo changes). And "Aquatic Abyss" shows a tendency to have a more refined technical work (with good vocals). And the CD version has one bonus track, "Curse (Horror of Dracula)", another massive blow of energy and speed.
For now, INSINNERATOR is a good and promising name of the new generation, as "Hypothermia" states clearly. So if they sharpen their potential, they'll be another very good name of younger Thrash Metal generations of the USA.
