Inmoria - Invisible Wounds album cover

The name of the band may not say something to you, except if you are a fan of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy since Moria is a dwarven mining complex in J. R. R. Tolkien's story; still, if you see the members of this band, you surely understand that those five guys are not new in the music industry.

Thy were formed by Dan Eriksson a year ago. After almost ten years away from the music scene, Dan felt that he had something to give and he stared INMORIA as an one-man band. But when he realized that a full lineup would be better, he spoke with his good friend Christer (TAD MOROSE) and things took their way, with the addition of Tommi Karppanen and Peter Moren also from TAD MOROSE and Charles Rytkonen (MORGANA LEFAY) behind the microphone.

As for their debut, Invisible Wounds even though it is not something innovative, I believe that it is a love-it-or-hate-it album. Well not hate it exactly but mostly say that it is a mediocre album. Personally I liked the album. It has catchy melodies and nice work on the keyboards. The dark and majestic atmosphere is something I enjoyed too, since I didn't have to listen to the typical happy Power Metal stuff. On the other hand, even though the samples in the first track give that extra something, there are some other parts in the album that I didn't like. For example the robotic female vocals in the last track are awful and some industrial moments throughout the album seam that don't fit. Also sometimes I believe that the compositions are overloaded. And of course they sound like TAD MOROSE; there is no question about that! And this is something normal, since the 4/5 are, or were, members of this band. As for Charles, it depends in what camp you belong: the ones that like his performance or the ones that believe he is just a bad imitation of Jon Oliva? I'm not going to make a stand in this dilemma, it's your choice.

As a conclusion, I'd say that I enjoyed listening to Invisible Wounds. It has good melodies, a nice dark atmosphere and some catchy choruses. But from those veterans I expect more things. And by putting layers over layers in a song it doesn't always make it better.
