After many line up changes leaving the band with the core duo members, they managed to get a new stable outfit finding a new guitarist (Joonas Kolehmainen) and a new singer (Markus Martinmäki), INKVISITOR are now back releasing their new album called "Dark Arts of Sanguine Rituals". The Finnish guys made quite a cool conceptual album managed as a story-telling (neo-noir murder mystery story) inviting album with quite great artwork: the booklet is greatly drawn (cartoon like) and makes us want to read it while listening to the album to know what this is all about. In my opinion the cover art should have been drawn the same way has the booklet but its cool anyway.
"INKVISITOR" is a Thrash outfit. Self Released on April 20th, this is their second full length release to date. "Delirious Tales" was their first effort back in 2014 as an EP and "Doctrine of Damnation" was their first full length in 2015. We have ten songs of about 40 minutes of Speed/Thrash metal. "Second Sacrament" is a fast paced, screeching vocals infused song that pounds nails into our skin with diversified raging drumming and quite a few breaks, and slowing down evilish dialogues fulfilling our insane mind. Crazy shit. "Shadows suspended in dust" is pretty much mid paced one that emphasizes greatly the lyrics. I start to get used to the vocals. At first I wasn't sure how to react. Tale-telling here. Cool. Many variations in tempo leads us to an abrupt finale.
"The Confession" is kind of a Thrash N' Roll song. PARTYYYYYY!!!Really moving one. Grade A for moshpit establishment. Pretty cool guitar solos appearing from nowhere submerging us. Heavy slow drumming to keep it painful (the good metal way). The finale is hilarious, ill let you listen to it. "Mindslaver" is quite a strong song and was the second band's choice as an official video song. Check the Youtube links to have a listen it is worth it. "Necromancy Cascade" is another great experience a few instrumental passages leads us to more complex riffing and i can say its a flawless one. "Paradigm Shift" used black metal blastbeats which is a good surprise for this kind of band. Also we have amazing instrumental moments.
Once Again I hear a Thrash Metal related band that find me perplexed but in a good way. They have complexity, evolutive riffing, explorative approaches, crazy singing, a pretty cool artistic approach, a story to tell, and nice cohesion even if their on their first album as this new roster. Pretty cool !
