The Architect Of Extinction

From the city of Manchester hails INGESTED, who deliver a pummeling dose of Brutal Death Metal, just how the doctor ordered it. The band finds no shortage of ways to cave in eardrums and split skulls with their newest release, "The Architect of Extinction".
The band has been around since 2006, putting out a handful of releases and refining their sound. Even without being familiar with their prior works, it's clear from the get-go that the chaps in INGESTED know what they're doing here. So relentless and chaotic is the band's assault that it doesn't at all feel like a 40+ minute record; the band's trail of destruction is rarely impeded, save for a few noticeable moments. "The Divine Right Of Kings" disorients the listener from the onset, starting out with a churning breakdown before suddenly and violently throwing the listener into a tornado of pure violence, where the debris that flies through the air are the battering drums and ferocious riffs, so to speak.
Each song is a masterclass on kicking ass, slamming and thrashing in just the right spots without coming across as too generic. The guitar playing is quite good, not overly technical but with impressive dexterity. Meanwhile, Lyn Jeffs must sweat buckets when he plays this material live, as he effortlessly interchanges between slower, heavy jams and speeds that BPM are hard to calculate for, while keeping it tasteful all the time. Jay Evans comes from the Frank Mullen/John Gallagher school of ungodly guttural growling. He gives a good range on all his performances, and I couldn't help but think "Man, is this guy going for the 'brown note' or what," so low do his vocal registers reach.
Each track is very solid in what they do, and are very similar on the whole, but a few others stood out to me. "I Despoiler" has a fantastically evil vibe to it, and the contrast created by the eerie leads provided make it even more so; all around, the song just seethes with menace, while "A Nightmare incarnate" sums up the sound of the album, both musically and aesthetically. Album closer "Rotten Eden" takes time to build up with its sinister clean guitars, but soon drops the hammer in impressive fashion to round out the proceedings.
"The Architect Of Extinction" is slamming, genre-blend Death Metal done right, and fans of the genre would do well to give it a spin.
