INFIRMUM is a death and doom metal band from the land of Finland. Originally formed in 2019, they bring forth their first full-length album, "Walls of Sorrow". At first listen, INFIRMUM, has an almost gothic doom death metal sound. It's like listening to a much more brutal sounding rock and roll band. The music has a very relaxing sound but brings it with absolute brutal vocals. "To Darkness" comes in showcasing some of the doom rock and roll sound. The track has a very upbeat and catchy sound to it. "Cause of Sorrow" has the more prototypical doom metal sound. "Shadows Of The Past" brings in a more gothic sound. It has an almost black metal quality to the music as well. As the album progresses, the doom metal sound becomes commonplace. The guitar work takes the front seat and belts out some beautiful melodies as the doom sound emanates from every track.
"Silence" brings the album to a full doom metal head. The slow-paced drowning melody of the song emanates the deep and dark gritty sound that the latter half of the album presents. What is interesting is even though INFIRMUM has a very prototypical doom metal sound, they know how to keep the sound fresh with some impressive guitar melodies. There is this very in-depth sound that comes from the guitar work to give the music an extra layer. "Wake Me" offers up some of that impressive sound elevating guitar work, also the rock and roll style returns to further add to the INFIRMUM signature doom metal sound. "Autumn Breeze" follows suit with the more doom metal sound but closes with a surprising death and thrash metal type melody. There is a definite style blend that INFIRMUM does so well that allows their doom metal sound to never be stagnant. "Sail Away" brings back the rock and roll sound. I love how the rock and roll sound interchanges with the doom metal sound. I can see how the combination of both aids to showcase how inventive INFIRMUM can remain in their signature style. A lot of doom metal bands carry on the same melodies over and over, but INFIRMUM mixes things up to a point where you can stay entertained.
INFIRMUM has a refreshing genre mixing doom metal sound that incorporates a darker rock and roll sound, that is further elevated using death and thrash metal elements. Anyone who favors a dark, gritty, and inventive doom metal band, INFIRMUM should be right up your alley. Bang your heads to "Walls of Sorrow".
