Metal maniacs, rejoice! I am proud to present to you: INFERNAL TORMENT; signed via Emanzipation Records, hailing from Danish grounds - performing Death Metal, on their sophomore album entitled: "Birthrate Zero" (released 29/10/2021). Since formation in 1992; the quintet in question have only 2 Demos entitled: "Incapability On The Cross" (released in 1993), "Instincts" (released in 1994) & 2 Full-length albums entitled: "Man's True Nature" and this here 2nd album entitled: "Birthrate Zero". Both albums being reissued for the next generation of Metal fans looking for new material, even though the band has split up - there's nothing wrong with discovering an old-school release. Featuring members from ILLDISPOSED & DAWN OF DEMISE, fans all over the world have demanded these two spectacles of Death Metal might to be resurrected and admired for another round of evil. Recorded and mixed at Borsing Studios, released on multiple limited edition colours on Vinyl such as dark green, purple and black - this cycle promises a brutal Death Metal offering for all demonic forces to enjoy. 11 tracks ranging at around 54:12, INFERNAL TORMENT arrange an intricately designed formula of this subgenre with prominent development.
Opening up with this rampantly rompy groove-bomb; "The Razor Twist" bulldozes eardrums with these bludgeoning amounts of rip-roaring distortion, thudding with sturdy tightness and amplified hooks amongst a boisterously bouncy calamity which tears with weighty fretwork flamboyancy. A crunchy aesthetic fuels a belting fabrication in fierce firepower expertise; as shredding solos manifest with spectral contortion, until near the end I hear a collective assortment of noise terror in an agonizing twist of extreme hostility. "Product Of Society" distils a dense conundrum in punchy, trailblazing stability - while thunderously synergetic furore elements at a blistering slab of solidly sulfurous riffs where morbid trembles grovel into a barraged frenzy of killer laceration mobility and furiously jumpy retribution that revels with a borderline foundation on skyrocketing tonality.
Consisting of Scott Jensen on vocals; the front man excels at a concretely gritty attribute on raspy pipes that shout with yelling potency, while throaty gutturals grumble with yelling aggression. The titular track ramifies with rampaging stampedes while the vocals roar with an evil empowering possession to kill while unleashing satanic hatred onto the masses profusely. Piledriving with rambunctiously hammering battering from drummer Heinz Kristensen the slamming virtuoso smacks the set with steely & robust precision, as a primitively raw severity on visceral yet sonically seamless speed pulsates speakers with molten meltdowns of impactful impulses that will make you want to break chairs over other chairs in no time. Relentlessly scourging with rapidly swift nimbleness and clobbering dexterity, a dynamic hybrid in intense malignance oscillates with repugnantly volatile meatiness amongst a monstrously savage maelstrom utilisation that stridently stomps with quintessential mayhem while chugging fluidly from guitar twinning rippers Jakob Batten (also on vocals) & Poul Winther (on leads).
A downstroying collective heats up with chugging frolics and galloping gravitation, as versatile vehemence transcends with outbursting jolts of oppressive malevolence. "The End Of Civilization" thumps out viciously venomous bass audibility from Steffan Larsen, as chunky adrenaline implements those old-school vibrancies of organic substance and drilling hastes of steamrolling blasphemy. Injecting infectiously acidic gnarliness with ominous yet symbolic malice to trample to, revving with blunt force oppression and grunty agility. "443556" is a brief, acoustic interlude - a little horrifying but effective until the murderous rampage of "Murder The World" executes in chunky bangs & massive systematics on swerving oblivion. Where sweeping kicks bruises and implodes souls with beckoning assaults, banging atrocity and ferocious chaos conjure up wrathful havoc - bombarding you with brutal heft & sludgy filth, demonizing senses with possessed satanism. "Race" shares a disdain in visceral repercussion while merging incredibly hasteful speed that overarches with intense claps while snarls of using taps scatter the ground abundantly with tremendous slays that grind into a foreboding overdose of demolishing desecration and destruction.
"Eliminate" electrocutes heads with motoring revs while swirling raze relentlessly explodes into a beefy disorder which rattles skulls with pounding perseverance, punishing the unexpected with pulverizing velocity & powerful rhythms that quake with prodigiously prestigious rage while corroding all holes with menacing shellshock. While the penultimate banger "Fuck The Whales" rebels with rigourous retribution against happy-go-lucky creatures of the sea, (or something else?) materialising those mammoth stamps which crashes bones with vigour and clunkiness in which stabilizes this rigid prominence on trodden machination which sometimes sees zestful conundrums amongst a sinister trepidation of molten metal fury. Brilliantly surprising me with the overall concluding cover of IRON MAIDEN's cult classic "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" which is a bizarre but epic tribute of the catchy grandeur in Death Metal malformation - sometimes unorthodox but enjoyably entertaining to thrash & rock to.
Bottom line; I am compelled to say that "Birthrate Zero" was most surely what I needed this week, a lofty pursuit of striking Death Metal venom that distils a deadly listen which will break all sense of unbound morality tenfold. A discovery that made me want to go back to the roots, and check out these re-issues for sure. Worthy of spinning & replaying a good handful of times, do check it out as INFERNAL TORMENT most certainly outdone themselves with this one.
