This Will Decay

Nineteen years later, Miami's Black Metal beasts INFERION are still making some of the most dark and sinister music that Horror Pain Gore Death has to offer. A truly relentless follow-up to 2012's "The Desolate", the band continues their attack on the senses with "This Will Decay". Percussive, melodic, and visceral, "This Will Decay" is thick and full-bodied, evil as shit, and a welcome addition to their discography, but obviously not for anyone who doesn't enjoy the textbook sound of true Black Metal.
From the beginning of the title track, you know it's Black Metal. You can't mistake the signature sound of those guitars and vocals. As a fan of metal, if you don't know a thing about Black Metal, you at least can recognize the tortured screams and blast beats of this style, and INFERION have only further polished their signature sound. All instruments are tracked very well and Reyes' vocals come through like a demon's fist ripping through your chest from the inside. The sheer "shredocity" of the guitars is only made more furious by Delgado's pounding double bass and spastic blast beats. This is honestly par for the course in this genre of music, and anything less would immediately take away from the music, but again, INFERION have been doing this for a long time. They know how to compose a Black Metal song that will melt faces. It's kinda what they do.
Fans of bands like BURZUM, DARKTHRONE, and BEHEMOTH will definitely appreciate the speed and precision from this band. Tracks such as "Embers", "Lament", and "Aftermath Of Destruction" all accurately showcase INFERION's thirst for break-neck tempo and technical guitar work. That said, if Black Metal is not your first pick when it comes to genres of metal, you're going to feel like the entire album is one big song. There isn't a whole lot that makes one track stand out from another one. As vicious and spastic as it is, it's also very repetitive. If you enjoy Black Metal, then that obviously won't bother you very much, but to anyone else, it becomes overbearing and tedious, as each song simply sounds like a part from the previous song.
If you were not familiar with the demonic beauty that is INFERION, then "This Will Decay" is a great place to start. Just make sure you understand what it is you're getting yourself into. Everything that this album has to offer is genuine and very well executed, but once you're locked in, don't expect too much deviation from it.
