Revenant
Inferi

I'm not really a fan of long albums. I think the perfect album is between 35 and 45 minutes long. Especially nowadays, I feel like I don't have the affinity to listen to a record front-to-back at once. I think I'm going through my playlist/one-or-two-song-at-a-time phase. So yeah, in the last few months, I've been more of a song person, rather than an album person. But this... This stuff is-
I have heard of INFERI before in Facebook groups, from online friends etc. but - since I knew they were Death Metal - I didn't bother to check them out. Then, I got the promo copy for their upcoming release, "Revenant" and I was pretty curious about whether or not I will enjoy the music itself as much as the Harry Potter reference of the band name.
The best I can describe the group's music is Technical Melodic Symphonic Death Metal. And as I was progressing through the record, I found that the more melodic and symphonic the music was, the more I liked it. I'm not a fan of Death Metal, and even though I like some tech, I didn't really dig the execution they were going for here. I had kind of a roller coaster effect honestly. The opening track was great, the second was a slight drop in quality, while the third and fourth are just not my cup of tea. But from "Enraged and Drowning Sullen" onwards, the album is phenomenal, every single minute of it.
Let me ask you this question. What do you expect from good music? What do you enjoy in music?
Good composition? Catchiness? Atmosphere? Melody? Dissonance? A crushing riff? An emotional solo? Powerful vocals? This record's second half has it all. Maybe the vocals are the "weakest" aspect I could find, Sam Schneider is mostly solid, I guess, but sometimes feels like a discount Trevor Strnad who - to my big surprise - actually appears in the last song. I honestly didn't notice that, let me just listen to the song again real quick...
Okay, I'm here, the song still kicks ass and yeah, Trevor's in it and outscreams Sam unfortunately.
Anyway, what the fuck are you doing still reading this review instead of pre-ordering "Revenant"?
