Infer - Aeon of Deathless Blight album cover

The greatest important role of bands with Old School Metal insights is that they keep alive the older ways. But all of them must understand that no one needs new HELLHAMMERs, MOTORHEADs or anything like these. You can play in an Old School way, but you must be yourself. In other words, it means that even doing things on such ways, the bands must create something of their own. And from Slovakia comes INFER, a brutal quartet, committing a massive Metal assault with "Aeon of Deathless Blight".

Their musical work is based on an old format of Death/Black Metal, but something heavily influenced by Swedish Death Metal School (namely, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, UNLEASHED and others in such way) and British School as well (mainly BOLT THROWER and BENEDICTION), and on the slow parts, pulses the same bitter energy from English Doom Death Metal (specially from PARADISE LOST's "Lost Paradise"). But besides all these names and references, the quartet shows a personal work. There are moments when the idea is that they can sail furthermore in their way, so it's a thing for them in the future.

The album was produced by Nocturnal, having the recording and mixing done by the hands of Martin "ElNjino" Barla, and the mastering was signed by Magnus Devo Andersson. All their efforts to give the album a crude and aggressive sonority, as it was a band from the 90's (reinforcing their Old School vein). But not in a way that could turn the understanding of what is being played into martyrdom for the listeners. It could be better, but it's not a loss.

The bitter and slow "Vision of Primal Horror" (nasty and bitter ambiance created by the slow tempos and distorted guitars, and filled with morbid Gregorian chants), the brutal crunch imposed by the fast "Heavenly Beasts", the contrasts created by the rhythm of "Into the Pit of Gehenna" and "Salvation Through Devastation" (both with very good grunts), and the nasty and brutal "Aeon of Deathless Blight" are the best songs for a first time on their work. And the more used the listeners become, the better the album will sound.

It's clear that INFER can do even better than is show on this album. But for now, for those who love Old School Death/Black Metal, "Aeon of Deathless Blight" is really a good release.
