INFECTION hailing from Peru were founded in 2006. They play Death Metal with Thrash Metal and Grindcore influences. Although song titles are in English, the lyrics are in Spanish with for this genre typical themes such us serial killers, mutilation, and murder. The band has two long-standing permanent members with Giuliano Canessa and Antonio Palacios. INFECTION released prior to the new material one EP and two full-length albums. "Beheaded Children Contest" is a rather short EP with a total length of a bit more than 12 minutes.

All songs on "Beheaded Children Contest" are fast, aggressive, and brutal. INFECTION play all their songs with high intensity. The title track has some technical Death Metal elements, with highly paced guitar sequences and changing riffs, blisteringly fast drums, and lots of blast beats. Giuliano Canessa's growls hardly vary throughout the song. "Excrement Overdose" offers a bit more variation regarding the song structure with a few breaks towards mid-tempo. "Rape Kill Rape" is another technical song with a lot of changes in guitar riffs, variation in speed, and Yesid Aranda doing a kick-ass job on the drums. "First Your Kid Then Your Wife Then You" is probably the song that contains most Thrash Metal elements on the EP. Generally played at high speed, it has a few mid-tempo breaks in between. The guitar riffs are especially during the mid-tempo parts catchy, but fit nicely into the song structure.

"Horrific Accident Was No Accident" and "The Kill" are songs with less than 30 seconds. "The Kill" is a NAPALM DEATH cover and the only song in English.

"Beheaded Children Contest" is a solid Death Metal EP with Grindcore elements. It is raw and played with lots of aggression and follows a well proven formula regarding the sound and the lyrical contents. For me, most memorable are the ever-changing guitar riffing and the excellent drum play. The English song titles and Spanish lyrics are somehow confusing but does not take anything away from the sound. The production is solid with room for improvement. It will be interesting to see how INFECTION develop with future releases.
