Forged out of the smoldering remains of FOR CHRIST SAKE, a Death Metal band from Belfast, Northern Ireland is Melodic Death Metal band INDOMINUS. The band changed their moniker in the year 2016 and promptly released an EP with five blistering tracks on it. Mark Payne and Simon Cochrane remain the two members from their old avatar and they are joined by Nathan Glasgow on drums, Logan McKee on rhythm guitars and Alan Duddy on lead vocals. The name of the band is taken from the Latin language and it means 'True King'. The band plays a brand of aggressive and brutal Death Metal and has changed their image by the arrival of the three new band members. They have stated that they will continue to play material from their previous version as well as write new material going forward. Lyrically, the band attempts at exploring topics like religion, death and political corruption.
The band were signed up with the U.S based record label Roxx Records to release the album and have recruited the talented artist Timothy Murray to work on the killer artwork. The band has since said that the entire album was recorded in one sitting and that the record was not rushed in any way but rather came together naturally. The band has played at international venues in Holland, Malta and Switzerland. The songs the band plays have are peppered with Thrash and Black Metal riffs and wild lead guitar solos. The band is active on the local scene in Dublin and is in the process of writing the follow-up to their debut effort.
The album surges into life with the first track "Leeches", a track just shy of four minutes in runtime and the band slashes and tears through the song with the fervor of a possessed dervish. The Thrash heavy song is punctuated with incessant drumming, chaotic lead and heavy down tuned riffs and is supported by diabolical lead vocals. Halfway through the song the beast becomes a chugging riff before become a slow, deliberate melody. A kicker of a start indeed. "Backbone" almost sounds like a something that the SEPULTURA boys would have written. Groove heavy with unrelenting riffs and guttural, gravelly lead vocals make this a regulation Thrash Metal song from the golden era of 80's thrash. Savage, vicious lead vocals that are set to fiendish riffs and persistent drumming this makes for a brilliant second song. "Shadow" is the third track of the album and it continues in the same vein as the previous track. The track is furious and has elements of Gothic Metal infused in it. The track gives the listener a bit of a breather in the middle section and what follows is a riff that is as evil as it is scintillating and it is set to a guitar solo that is wild and fast paced. This track is the highlight of the album and it is nestled cleverly right in its middle.
"Legion Within", the title track is the final track of this exhilarating album and is just short of five minutes in runtime. It starts with a haunting, swift lead guitar solo set to heavy chugging riffs. The abrasive, scratchy vocals make for a perfect foil to the ripping guitar leads and lumbering riffs. The band has really hit the sweet spot with this cracker-jack of an album and it is a befitting example of a modern Death Metal album. The band has managed to interlace quick fire lead solos with heavy riffage and guttural vocals into a berserk, bloodthirsty beast. The tracks on the album are fierce, unrestrained and they will undoubtedly pummel the listener into submission just by the sheer ferocity of the music. The debut effort of this talented band is filled with fury and is entirely head-bangable. The band has said that the title track was written in a single session and it reveals the abundant talent they posses. Think of this as the rightful heir to the sounds that SEPULTURA and PANTERA pioneered all those years ago. I, for one, am keenly awaiting their second outing.
