Vic Records re-released the pioneer demo from 80's Death Metal band INCUBUS on June 16th, 2014. The band was formed by ex MORBID ANGEL bassist, Sterling Von Scarborough who committed suicide in 2006 and drummer Mike Browning who is continuing his musical career with his band, Nocturnus AD.

Despite their vicious sound, INCUBUS was not widely received and would not go on to produce another album. It's a shame that the band never caught on. If they were around today they would likely receive high praise in the new, multifaceted metal scene of the 90's and 2000's.

INCUBUS had a unique sound in the late 80's, being one of the earliest bands to combine Death Metal with Thrash in a way that would produce modern Grindcore. Even casually listening to the album it is very easy to see how INCUBUS has influenced the modern grind genre with bands like THE LOCUST, FUCK THE FACTS, and SKARP carrying on the frantic, cacophonous legacy.

Scarborough's vocals are impressive; they incorporate heavy but clear screaming with uncontrolled, high-pitched shrieks and eerie, guttural moans. The bass is a constant hammering of simplistic and brutal chords backed by continuous, blasting drumbeats that remain ringing in your ears through all three tracks. The guitar work is a pit of seemingly disorganised, grinding riffs and uncontrollable shredding solos that pop up at unexpected moments that will leave you dizzy. It's not hard to catch yourself jamming to the disappointingly short album on repeat.

I would like to give a shout-out to Vic Records for re-releasing this album; INCUBUS needs to be recognised for the fans and bands that their style of music has inspired. Although INCUBUS's shining achievement is only twelve minutes long, you may have to squelch the urge to make pacts with dark forces for more tracks.
